About the event
Food Forests are a beautiful way to enhance local food production while strengthening ecological functions and services in the landscape. We begin by analyzing the site to cultivate a responsive design that integrates the natural features of the land with local strategies for growing food, building soil, providing water, and enhancing relationships between species to create an intentional forest of cultivated plants.
We invite you to join Marisha Auerbach and Flaco at Atlan Community in the Columbia River Gorge as we delve into the design and initial stages of establishment of their food forest. This workshop will cover the basics of food forestry, including site analysis, system establishment, plant selection and maintenance over time. Come prepared to spend time learning outdoors from the land and connecting with other permaculture and fruit enthusiasts. Learn from the food forest project at Atlan so you can do something similar in your own landscape and designs.
The course is for home gardeners, fruit growers, land managers, landscapers, and anyone enthusiastic about growing fruit and supportive plants in a way that enhances the environment around them.
